Veterans Center in New Location

The Esperanza Veterans Center (EVC) showcases NVC services dedicated to meeting the unique needs of veteran and military-connected students and their families. The facility includes academic advising, career counseling, mental health support, and access to a dog park and amenities for service animals. Made possible through the support and leadership of Senator José Menéndez, the building was envisioned by veteran students and employees, with landscaping provided by a veteran-owned business.

In honor of Veterans Day, Northwest Vista College proudly announced the grand opening of the Esperanza Veterans Center, a facility dedicated to meeting the unique needs of veteran- and military-connected students and their families.

Developed with input from veteran students and employees, the Esperanza Veterans Center’s innovative design by Overland Partners Architects and Vaughn Construction offers tailored support services such as academic advising, career counseling, mental health resources, and amenities for service animals, including a dog park. The center was also designed to minimize noise and distractions while maximizing natural light, creating a calm and productive environment.

The new 4,700-square-foot facility was made possible through funding supported by Senator José Menéndez.

“This new center at NVC joins the award-winning veterans support facilities at San Antonio College, St. Philip’s College, Palo Alto College, and Northeast Lakeview College,” said Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor. “These centers provide a network of services that address the unique challenges veterans face in transitioning from military to civilian life and highlight our commitment to supporting veterans and their families.”

The Texas Veterans Commission recently recognized all five Alamo Colleges District institutions with the Gold Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Award.

“Ensuring Northwest Vista College students have access to quality services remains our top priority,” said NVC President Dr. Amy Bosley. “The Esperanza Veterans Center will help students and their families reach their goals by providing vital resources to support access
and completion.”

In addition to services provided at the EVC, veteran students receive assistance through other college support areas, including the Veterans Library, the Vet 2 Vet Program, and the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society—the only national honor society that recognizes and honors veteran students.
